About Zoran
My name is Zoran Bozicevic. I'm a journalist, a runner and a podcaster.
As a young man, I was a judo competitor and 5-times middleweight champion of Croatia. Along with judo training, I did a lot of running at the time, and even competed in a few 1500 and 3000 m races. I studied at the University for Kinesiology and Physical Education in Zagreb, Croatia, with the double major in judo and sport photography. By the end of the studies I was also coaching a junior judo team.
Soon after, I gradually traded coaching career for photojournalism. It started with sports, then metamorphosed into news photography in general, the career I've pursued for 2 decades. Currently I am a Multimedia Producer at Canada's national daily newspaper, National Post.
In a busy lifestyle of a journalist always on the move, running was the way to preserve sanity, but it wasn't always easy to find time or place to run. I traveled with jumping rope in my bag, which I skipped in the morning in my room. Many hotel guests around the world must have wondered about the strange rhythmical thumping noise coming from my room. To my relief, nobody ever complained.
Car-bound lifestyle in Canada didn't work well with my running regimen. I became sedentary for a number of years, moving from a car seat to the computer chair and back. I gained about 20 lbs (roughly 10 kg) and started having back issues.
Running took again a serious form in 2007, when I was recovering from a herniated disk. During the convalescence running was a necessity, but soon became a pleasure, a passion and a healthy addiction. I shed the weight gained during my inactive phase, and never looked back.
I'm quite fortunate—my education provides me with a thorough understanding of the human body and training process. Applying and experimenting with different training methods, I came to the point where running is easy, painless and pleasurable. I qualified for, and run both Boston and New York City marathons in 2010. I helped colleagues and friends with advice, and was encouraged to start a podcast in hope to motivate, inform and entertain runners everywhere.
In addition to bi-weekly podcast episodes, I am also available as a motivational speaker, wherever there are people who need a nudge to move from the chair and into running shoes, or runners who can use some motivation or help with training. If interested, please contact me via email HERE, or on twitter.
Happy running and keep in mind - if it's not fun, you're working too hard!
